Minimally invasive surgery procedures
New techniques are constantly developed using proven strategies from other established minimally invasive surgery procedures (MIS). We continue to work with producers of surgical instruments (including robotics) to invent new tools and improve old ones, making them safer and more reliable.
A minimally invasive approach exists for many, if not most, procedures. Situations where MIS is not possible, may include excision of extensive tumors such as neuroblastoma or the presence of scar tissue that prevents safe access to the chest or abdomen. However, even in severe internal scarring, an MIS approach may be possible and even preferable.

What to expect during your first visit
One of our medical office specialists will greet you and assist you with checking in and verifying that we have all the correct information for the patient. We want to make sure we are able to communicate with your family for future visits/communications.
Next, a nurse or medical assistant will greet the child and family and show them to our vital signs area where they will obtain your child's height, weight and vital signs. The nurse/medical assistant will then take the child and their family to an examination room to complete the check-in process which includes verifying the patient's medication list, allergies, hospitalizations, surgeries and obtaining a brief history as to the reason for referral to our clinic.
The surgeon will then discuss with you your child's medical history, records received and examine the child and discuss a treatment plan based on the patient's diagnosis or possible diagnosis. The average length of our surgery visits is around 30 minutes, depending on the complexity and reason for the visit.
