What to expect at your first visit

A nurse or medical assistant will greet the child and family and obtain your child's height, weight and vital signs. They will then verify the patient's medication list, allergies, hospitalizations, surgeries, and obtain a brief history as to the reason for referral to our clinic. Our hematologist/oncologist will meet you and discuss with you your child's medical history, records received, and examine the child and discuss a treatment plan based on the patient's diagnosis or possible diagnosis.
Hematology/oncology visits are around an hour to an hour and a half. In many cases, lab work may be required to aid in diagnosis. Please be sure your child is well hydrated as hydration is very important to this process. The staff will assist in making sure this is a smooth process and your child remains as comfortable as possible.
